My Conversations with ChatGPT
Machine Translation (MT) and translations generated by AI have brought about a paradigm shift in the translation industry. The output of MT will continue to improve, especially when associated with clients’ translation memories and human editing. Language Service Providers are adapting and are including MT in their processes, when MT is applicable. While linguists will continue to be essential in the process, their role will shift from that of translators to validators of content generated by MT. At Excel Translations, we wanted to know what AI thinks about all of this and decided to have an open conversation on the matter with ChatGPT. I will regularly publish a question and ChatGPT’s response, uncensored.
QUESTION 106:
Can LSP’s expect an uptick in certain language pairs this year?
Chat GPT’s Response:
As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, I don’t have real-time information on the specific trends for Language Service Providers (LSPs) in 2024. However, certain language pairs have historically been in high demand due to economic, geopolitical, and technological factors. Some factors that can influence the demand for specific language pairs include:
- Global Economic Trends: Economic ties and business activities between countries often drive demand for translation services. If certain regions experience increased economic cooperation or expansion, the demand for language pairs involving those languages may rise.
- Geopolitical Developments: Political events, trade agreements, or shifts in international relations can impact the demand for translation services. Changes in diplomatic relationships or trade partnerships may lead to an increased need for specific language pairs.
- Emerging Technologies: Advancements in technology, such as the development of new software, platforms, or industries, can create demand for translation services in specific language pairs. For example, the growth of the artificial intelligence or blockchain industry may require translation services for documentation and communication in relevant languages.
- Healthcare and Medical Research: With the ongoing global focus on healthcare and medical research, there may be an increased demand for translation services in languages related to medical literature, research papers, and healthcare communications.
- Legal and Regulatory Changes: Changes in laws, regulations, or compliance requirements may lead to a higher demand for translation services, particularly in legal and regulatory domains.
To get the most accurate and up-to-date information, it is recommended to consult industry reports, market analyses, and stay informed about global events and trends. Additionally, networking within the language services industry and keeping an eye on relevant conferences or publications can provide insights into emerging language pairs in demand.
